Whole Home Exploration: Unlock the Potential in Your Home
Most of our clients come to us with a long list of goals and dreams for their home. We take in this valuable information and prioritize together and design feasible options. When we assess the whole home, we can find creative ways to meet multiple needs with each move we make. We help hone the project to a size and scale that works for you. We want you to be fully confident in the choices you make and very happy with the end results.
Making Space
The way homes were built in the 20s, 50s, and 70s doesn’t always support the way we live today. Adding on, opening up, remodeling: there are so many ways to get more from your home. But what will work best? What gives you the most bang for your buck?
Moving Forward
You’ve thought about different ways to get more of what you want from your home, but it’s all so hard to imagine. At a certain point, you need help picking the right path from all the options that are possible.
Understanding Barriers
Structure, electrical, plumbing, zoning, permits: it can be intimidating. These are questions that can really derail a project without clear insight into how to find the right answers.
What to Expect
I provide a clear proposal and statement of work. There are checkpoints throughout and clear off-ramps if the process gets overwhelming. No matter what, you will know so much more about what your house can and cannot do by the time we’re done
The Process
- We start with a conversation where I get to know you, your household, and your property. We take note of your needs and consider all the options.
- We move from broad ideas to a specific path, figuring out scale, scope, budget, and feasibility. Always with an eye on what is permissible by zoning and building code! You’ll gain a deep understanding of what your home can do through this process.
- I stay with you through design choices, permitting hurdles, and the construction process. At the end, we celebrate!
The whole Home Exploration is best for….
Portland-area homeowners considering additions, interior reconfigurations, ADUs, or extensive kitchen and bath remodels. My ideal client is aware of their budget, thinks critically about long term value and enjoyment, and has a strong commitment to their home and their neighborhood. You are open to a variety of solutions as long as they meet your needs and budget.
We sought out PDX Additions (Amanda Erickson) to help with a kitchen redesign/remodel. Our kitchen was configured in the original layout – circa 1939 – and the space was quite cramped. Amanda steered us through the engineering and contracting phases and even connected us with an interior designer. The outcome has been amazing – the space now supports more than one family member being in the kitchen at once and flows well. Having a kitchen with a workable flow has been so helpful and literally improved our quality of life.
